12 month short form poetry personal challenge

Beginning 11 July 2008, I embarked on a challenge to create one short form poem a day for 12 months and post these on my Bigblog and Facebook. This poetry will be a mixture of Haiku, Senryu, Rooku, Tanka, Cinquain, Tetractys, Clerihew and any other short form I come across.

11 July - Facebook Senryu

Forum addiction
Obstructs intelligent posts
Sign up and depart

12 July - Saturday Senryu

In leafy suburbs
Householders display their wares
Stock up for Ebay

13 July - Sunday Senryu

Church bells impotent
Against petty bureaucracy
Ghostly echoes of a past age

14 July - Monday Rooku

White wintered mornings
On city streets
Homeless souls drift

Red callistomen
Smile at thunderheads above
Damp stamens quiver

16 July - Wednesday Clerihew

Peter Garret
A party line parrot
Whose voice remains still
At mention the pulp mill

(c) Merlene Fawdry

17 July - Thursday Cinquain

Morning
Before daybreak
Silence offers solace
Until caffeine expels cobwebs
Daybreak

(c) Merlene Fawdry

18 July - Friday Tetractys

Age
Stay back
I will not
Let you plunder
The image of self I hold in my heart

(c) Merlene Fawdry

19 July - Saturday Haiku

Trees stand unashamed
In seasonal nakedness
Still life perfected

(c) Merlene Fawdry

Wind driven raindrops
Write across dusted windows
Rural graffiti

Behind the high desk
An exchange of currency
He pays with his soul

Dawn nudges the long night
Sun hidden behind grey clouds
Blessings in silver

Centrelink
Human bondage
Pries, prods, processes
A forfeiture of self
Survival

At Highpoint food court
Fast food junkies make their choice
Cholesterol reigns

(c) Merlene Fawdry

A velvet rose petal
Drifts slowly on tender breeze
A column of ants
In industrious order
Carry nature's detritus

A lap of honour
For the conquering hero
Holdens slink past in defeat

Bluestone foundation
Underpins the faith
The tall spire looks down

Early morning
In an uptown carpark
Courtesy sacrificed for space
